A DIY Background

I was struggling whether to write this post because this card has nothing to wave about: I'm just CASE-ing someone else work. BUT...my rationale is that as long as I give credit to the work and not use it to join any challenge, I guess it's OK. What do you think about CASE-ing?

Back to this card. As I had problem finding a similar pattern paper, I finally give up after spending a good half hour and decided to DIY a background from scratch. This is really something I haven't done before. So I would like to share with you how I did it.

Disclaimer: please don't mind the mess on my craft table!

1. Start with a Neenah white card stock, apply Tumble Glass distress ink with the applicator.

Note: When I apply the distress ink, I did it in circular motion starting from outside and goes inwards. As you can see, I have put a scrap paper underneath and the "blue" portion of that scrap paper is where I start. This is to allow smooth ink coverage on the card stock.

This is the finish look after the Tumble Glass distress ink. It doesn't really matter that the ink is really even as I will apply another layer on top.

2. Apply Weathered Wood distress ink, the same as previous step.

Now the colour becomes more greyish.

3. Next, I stamp Heroarts Classic Fabric Design with Memento Summer Sky. I have tried different ink (Versamark, Tumble Glass, Weathered Wood, and Versa Magic Aspen Mist) to achieve the tone on tone look but the "Summer Sky" gives the best result.

4. Ta-da! This is almost done!

5. Apply Walnut Stain distress ink on edges and this is exactly how I wanted to have.

Finally, this is how the card looks like.
I'm CASE-ing one of her cards. Checkout this photostream on Flickr, her works are simply GORGEOUS!

Materials:
Stamps: HeroArts G5311 Silhouette Spray, S5324 Simple Frame, CL139 Birthday Messages, CG245 Classic Fabric Design
Ink: Rangers distress ink (tumble glass, weathered wood, tattered rose), Memento Dye ink (Summer Sky, Tuxedo Black)
Others: Stampin Up paper piercing mat, Rangers diamond stickles

Your background turned out fabulously well! Great job. I have so many distress inks; I really need to pull them out more often.

What a beautiful background and the stamp you chose is perfect The scrolled, black frame really adds nice detail too. Thanks for paying me a visit and your kind words too.
